The Lightweight Standard C wheelset is based on our proven ‘Standard’ model. It has been designed for use with wire bead or folding tires. To achieve best possible results we have redesigned the entire rim.
Combining new and proven technology
Lightweight Standard C wheels come with all technical innovations of our current Generation III wheels. The new all-carbon spokes and the direct bonding of spokes, rim and hub is taken over from our ‘Standard’ and ‘Obermayer’ wheels. New is the rim: It has to be light and stiff like on all our wheels; additionally, the sidewall must meet extreme physical demands.
Tire pressure and brake calipers both put large lateral forces on the sidewall. Add to that the heat created by braking from high velocities, and you have quite a task for the engineering department. Carbon fibers excel at withstanding longitudinal forces, and the poor heat transfer capability of carbon fiber materials let temperatures rise quickly, possibly leading to problems both at the rim and for the pad compound. We employ a special temperature resistant resin enveloping our high-tensile fibers to easily meet these demands.
No rim tape is needed, further reducing overall weight.

The front wheel is available with different spoke counts. Depending on rider weight and intended use you can choose between 16 or 20 spoke versions. As with all our Generation III wheels, the spokes are composed of carbon fibers and are laminated directly into both the rim and hub. There are no spoke nipples or other screw-type fittings which might become loose. Thus, the wheels will never have to be trued. |
Integrated wheel magnet and microchip
To give an even greater advantage, an extremely light Samarium-Cobalt-magnet has been laminated into the rim. At only .8 g there is nothing to disturb the wheel’s perfect roundness. In addition, integrated magnets are aerodynamically superior to ordinary wheel magnets, which are bolted to a spoke and create additional turbulences.
Even lighter is the microchip laminated into the rim: A mere .2 g light, but it stores all relevant production data, giving your wheel something equivalent to their individual fingerprint. This allows us to ensure identification of the wheels, perfect product support, and easier repairs in case of a crash.
